FLY OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, December 31, 2008

The Popper is another very versatile fly that comes in a large variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and patterns. In my opinion this is one of the deadliest warm water flies available. I have my big weedless Frog Poppers to through into cover, my Dahlberg Divers to entice the big bite, and my Mini Poppers for those aggressive early spring to late summer pan fish. You cant really go wrong with a Popper, and in my opinion you cant fish it wrong either. I have seen people catch fish on the softest slowest retrieves to the hardest fastest retrieve. So if you need a warm water fly, and want to see a big bass clobber a fly at the surface tie on a Popper and have some fun.

FISH OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, December 31, 2008

This is a photo that I took of my brother’s first rainbow trout at The West Fork of the San Gabriel River. He was so exicted that he almost dropped the fish. To this date it is still one of the largest trout that I have seen caught up above the second bridge where the fish are catch and release only.

FLY OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, December 23, 2008

The Parachute Adams is the go to Dry Fly of many of the top Trout Fly Fisherman in the world. This Fly is one of the most versatile and recognized dry fly patterns ever invented. The Parachute Adams is great Fly to use on the Dropper Fly system as the white wings can be used as a great indicator if the fish takes the dropper nymph. It is used on all bodies of water, and comes in many different sizes. I myself have caught fish on the Size 20 all the way up to the Size 12. The Parachute Adams is a must have in my Fly Box, and should be in your as well!

FISH OF THE WEEK

This picture is of a Carp that I caught in the LA River right under the Hyperion Bridge at Glendale Narrows. There was a small pool that I caught 6 fish in within 30 minutes out of. Go down to the LA River at Glendale Narrows one time with a 5 weight rod, some strong leader, a couple of glow bugs and eggs flies, and you will have the time of your life.

FLY OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, December 17, 2008

The Woolly Bugger is probably the most recognized fly in all of Fly Fishing. It is such a versatile fly because there are so many designs, that can be fished for so many species, in so many ways. Woolly Buggers can be used to imitate many different types of fish food for example; Dragonfly Nymphs, Damselfly Nymphs, Leeches, Crayfish, and Bait fish. This is a very good all around fly to have in your fly box. I have caught Sunfish, Crappie, Carp, Bass, Trout, and Tilapia off different Woolly Bugger Patterns. So next time your out Fly Fishing and your thinking that you need a go to fly, think about throwing a couple of Woolly Buggers in your fly box. Trust me you will be a better Fly Fisherman for it.
