FISH OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, December 17, 2008

This photo is of a Red Ear Sunfish that I caught while Fly Fishing at Piru Lake off of the boat launch a little while back. I caught it on a size 14 Bead Head Black Stone Fly. I was fishing a little size 18 prince nymph on the dropper. I was actual fishing for bass and caught this guy, and let me tell you he fought about as hard as any Largemouth Bass I have ever caught on a Fly Rod.

NEW STOCKING REGULATIONS

By Sean Fenner, December 3, 2008

A heads up to all you Fly Fisherman out there in Southern California. The Department of Fish and Game has posted on their website that they are no longer going to be stocking some of the best steams in Southern California with Trout. Here is the website to check out the list DFG. These streams incluude Piru Creek, East/West Fork San Gabriel River, And Bouquet Canyon Creek. This is a perfect example of why we need to respect the resource, it might not be there for very long. As I have said before if you are out on a stream, or anywhere for that matter; be respectful, pick up trash if you see it, and practice catch and release as much as possible.

THANKSGIVING ON THE HILL

By Sean Fenner, December 1, 2008

Over Thanksgiving I had the chance to go up to Big Bear Lake, CA. I did not really get to do alot of fishing, but it is a great spot. There is fishing all year round, and there is a fishing shop down town to pick up current lake info. Here are the spots that I have heard are the best; Boulder Bay, The Flats next to the airport on the east end of the lake, and the shoreline of the north/northwest end of the lake. They have all the species you are looking for Bass, Panfish, Catfish, Carp, and Trout. All you have to do is go in the right season. Here is the website I like best Big Bear Lake Fishing Report. Below are some pics of the lake from my trip.
