FLY OF THE WEEK

By , February 11, 2009 8:03 am

The San Juan Worm is a controversial fly to alot of Fly Fisherman because it is a worm imitation and some people consider it worm fishing. The truth though is that it is an actual imitation of an aquatic worm, first developed for the San Juan River in which there are abundant Aquatic Worms in the 1-3 inch range. This fly is highly effective during the Winter Months in the local San Gabriel Mountains. So don’t be a so called “Purist” and throw a couple of worm flies in your box. You will catch more fish, and you will be a better Fly Fisherman for it.

FISH OF THE WEEK

By , February 11, 2009 8:00 am

I decided to do another Cartoon Photo for fish of the week, because I got such great comments on last weeks photo. This is a Largemouth Bass that I caught at a Alondra Park Lake a while back. The majority of the Largemouth Bass that I catch at Park Lakes are caught on a Woolly Bugger or a Popper. The best time for Fly Fishing Bass is in the Mid Spring to Early Fall. From the Late Fall to Early Spring the Bass shut down at all the Park Lakes that I know of.

FOLAR

By , February 8, 2009 5:17 am

One of my favorite sites on the Internet is the Friends of the LA River site at FOLAR. This group is one of the many groups out there raising awareness about the LA River, and trying to get it protected by the California Clean Water Act. Not very many people know that the LA River is a great place to Fly Fish for Carp. If you want more info check out my Link under the locations section of the main blog page, or my video on my YouTube or Hook.tv channels. If anyone is interested in helping clean up the La River FOLAR is having a river clean up event on May 9th from 9:00a.m. to 12:00pm.
