"FLY FISHER AND PHOTOGRAPHER"

By Sean Fenner, April 18, 2009

Recently I was sent a few great photos from one of our blog followers Dave Gollihugh. After seeing these photos, I am struggling to figure out if Dave is a better Fly Fisherman or a Photographer. Keep up the great work Dave, and if any of you guys out there want to send me photos to post on blog I would be more than willing!

FLY OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, April 14, 2009

The Matuka fly was created in New Zealand for their notoriously large and ferocious Rainbow Tout. Over time however this fly has become a go to streamer for many Fly Fishermen all over the world. This is a great big fish fly that I love to use on large bodies of slow moving water. You can cover alot of ground with this fly, and it works well on large Trout as well as Bass and Panfish (from what I have been told it works especially well on Smallmouth Bass). My personal favorite colors are Black with a red belly or white with a black belly. This fly is also highly effective with the hook up instead of down making it somewhat of a weedless fly, and great for the daring Carp looking to pick it up on the fall.  Get a few from my buddy Richard over at “The Trout Spot”.

FISH OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, April 14, 2009

The Green Sunfish is my favorite Sunfish to catch. They are small fish but what what they lack in size they make up in vibrant color. Each time I catch one of these little guys, I am amazed by there beauty. I am also yet to catch two Green Sunfish with even close to similar markings and coloration. Here is a photo of one little guy that I pulled out of Legg Lake while fishing for Bluegill and Crappie.

FISH OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, April 8, 2009

Here is alittle Sunfish action for the “Fish of the Week”. A nice little bluegill that I caught to start off my spring time Urban Fishing. If you see the chunk of the tail that is missing, believe it or not as he was going for my fly a Bass came up to chow down on him. It’s actually ironic saving a fish from being eaten by hooking it in the mouth (I catch and release all of the fish that I catch while fishing at the park lakes).

FLY OF THE WEEK

By Sean Fenner, April 8, 2009

Dragonfly patterns are a great way to get bites from the BIG FISH in any pond. If you are ever fishing a body of water and you see any kind Of Damsel Flies, tie on a pattern to match and hold on for dear life when that big fish comes flying out the water. I love using these patterns at Clark Regional near the Lilly Pads, I have caught a few nice Bass and have had a couple chunky Bluegills take a bite. So, if you are a fly fisherman looking for the big bite from a big fish you need to have a couple in your box.
