If you are looking to catch the big Panfish in your local pond, then I suggest that you go and buy a couple of Freshwater Clousers. This is one of those flies that crosses the Panfish/Bass border line in the size 8 and will get you good sized fish of both species. I talked to a guy one time that was fishes up at El Dorado Park with Freshwater Clousers and he told me that one time he took in 35 fish on this one fly. His stringer included Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Green Sunfish, a Channel Cat, and a Yellow Bull Head.
