HUNTINGTON CENTRAL PARK LAKE

Huntington Central Park lake is located on Edwards in between Slater and Ellis in the city of Huntington Beach. The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this lake with Rainbow trout from late fall to the early spring and Channel Catfish from the late spring to the early fall. I would not recommend this lake lake to anyone. The couple of times that I was there no one was catching anything and the water level is down really far about 20-30 feet depending on the day. People have also told me that there are a few Bluegill and Largemouth Bass in the Lake, but I have never seen anyone catch one. Remeber only take the fish if you are going to eat them, otherwise please practice catch and release and don’t litter!!!

ALAMITOS BAY

Alamitos Bay is a great So Cal Surf Fishing destination. Located right next to the mouth of the San Gabriel River, it provides an Estuary filled with an assortment of different fish species. From Surf Perch and Sand Bass to Sharks and Rays your just never know what might be on the other end of your line. The quarter mile long rock jettys also create a great area for Float Tubing without the worry of drifting out to sea.

ARROYO SECO CANYON CREEK

The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this creek with Rainbow Trout from Early Spring to Late Fall, and there a native and wild Rainbow Trout 2-3 miles into the trail. This trail is 5 miles to the end which has a very nice 50-60 foot waterfall, there are a lot of people once it starts getting warm, so go early if you are planning on fishing.

EISENHOWER PARK LAKE

Eisenhower Park Lake is located at 2864 North Tustin Street in Orange, CA. The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this lake with Rainbow Trout from late fall to the early spring and Channel Catfish from the late spring to the early fall. There are also Bluegill, Carp, and a few Largemouth Bass in this lake. Remember only take the fish if you are going to eat them, otherwise please practice catch and release and don’t litter!!!

BIG BEAR LAKE

Big Bear Lake is a man made Reservoir/Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains. It’s a decent sized lake at 22 miles of shoreline and 2,971 surface acres at water capacity, which sits at an elevation of about 6.750 feet . Close to home, but far away enough to feel like a vacation, fishing Big Bear is still a nice way to get away from it all. There is great Rainbow and Brown Trout Fishing in the Winter, though the Lake will start to freeze over if it gets cold enough. Also great Sunfish and Bass fishing in the Spring through Fall and many species of Catfish in the lake from Channels to Bullhead of all varieties. In my opinion though, the best feature of Big Bear is the Carp Fishing in the flats end of the lake.

SANTA ANITA CREEK

Santa Anita Creek is a great small body of water to fish for Rainbow Trout. I fish the waterfall dams along the creek they produce the most fish for me. Please remember to practice CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY!!! The creek does not get stocked ever so please release the fish so that future generations can enjoy this great resourse.

You will need a Forest Adventure Pass to park in the National Forest sections.

DIXON LAKE

Dixon Lake is a small lake located in San Diego County near the city of Escondido. You can get there by taking the 15 Freeway to El Norte Pkwy. Exit to La Honda Dr. then make a left and follow the residential road up to the lake entrance. Entrance fee last time I was there was $5 for Adults $3 for kids and you pay per pound for what you catch. You can rent Rowboats of Motorboats for like $15, but the fishing is good from the shore line. This lake has a great Largemouth Bass population and some real chunkers have been caught here, the biggest 21 pounds 11 ounces in May of 2003. The lake is stocked with a ton of Rainbows in the Winter and Channel Cats in the Summer, and the Sunfish get big (so bring your poppers).

NEWPORT BACK BAY

Newport’s Back bay is a maze of estuary waters that you could literally spend a lifetime fishing. It offers so many opportunities from Surf and Float tubing to Kayaking and fishing from a boat. it also offers a diverse ecosystem of like Bass, Perch, Mullet, Sharks, Rays, Croaker, and many others. My best source of information on this area has and will always be His & Her Fly Shop owned and operated by Frank Selby. You won’t find a place with for information to give or people more willing to give it. It also helps that their in house “Master Fly Tier” Gracie can tie you up just about any pattern you can think of. Just let them know that Sean Fenner sent you!

CENTENNIAL PARK LAKE

Centennial Park Lake is located in the city of Santa Ana at 3000 W. Edinger Ave. Santa Ana, CA 92704. The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this lake with Rainbow Trout from late fall to the early spring and Channel Catfish from the late spring to the early fall. There are also Bluegill, Carp, Green Sunfish, and a few Largemouth Bass in this lake. PIRU LAKE

To get to Piru Lake take the 5 freeway to the 126 West to the town of Piru exit off Main st. and follow the road all the way up to the lake. Piru Lake offers many shoreline and boat fishing opportunities and hold a large population of: Bluegill, Red Ear Sunfish, Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, and it stocked with about 34,000 pounds of Trout every year. The best fishing is early in the morning or just before sunset if you are going to be fishing shoreline. One of my favorite spots is near the boat docks, I have pulled some nice size Bass and Sunfish out of that area. Some other great spots on the lake are near the Dam, Cow Cove, and Felicia Cove.

TRABUCO CANYON CREEK

Follow the dirt road up about 2.5 miles until you cross over the stream the DFG starts stocking from this point. Lots of trees along the edge of the Creek and the water level is usually extremely low. There are a few wild fish left in the upper reaches of the stream.

PIRU CREEK

The Department of Fish and Game used to stock the Creek from Late Fall to Eary Spring, but because of a dispute stocking is not set to resume until 2010. There are a good population of Wild Rainbow Trout in this Creek.

LAGUNA LAKE PARK

This used to be a very dirty park, it used to smell really bad and the water was gross. But, my buddy Dan and I went to the park the other weekend, and they have made alot of changes to clean the park up. The DFG stocks this park lake from Late Fall to Early Spring with Rainbow Trout and Channel Catfish from Late Spring to Early Fall. There are also Largemouth Bass, Sunfish, and Carp in this park lake. Remember only take the fish if you are going to eat them, otherwise please practice catch and release and don’t litter!!!

MILE SQUARE PARK LAKE

Mile Square Park Lake is located at 6801Euclid Ave. Fountain Valley, CA 92708. The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this lake with Rainbow trout from late fall to the early spring and Channel Catfish from the late spring to the early fall. There are also Bluegill, Carp, and a few Largemouth Bass in this lake. The smaller of the two ponds receives the majority of fish stocked by the California Department of Fish and game. Remeber only take the fish if you are going to eat them, otherwise please practice catch and release and don’t litter!!!

LINCOLN PARK LAKE

Lincoln Park Lake is located at 3501 Valley Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90031. The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this lake with Rainbow trout from late fall to the early spring and Channel Catfish from the late spring to the early fall. LEGG LAKE

Legg lake is located at 823 Lexington Road in South El Monte, CA 91733. This lake is actually a series of three good sized ponds, the center pond depicted here tends to hold the majority of the fish. The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this lake with Rainbow trout from late fall to the early spring and Channel Catfish from the late spring to the early fall. There are also Bluegill, Carp, Crappie, Green Sunfish, and Largemouth Bass in this lake. Remember only take the fish if you are going to eat them, otherwise please practice catch and release and don’t litter!!!

HOLLENBECK PARK LAKE

Downey Wilderness Park Lake is located at 10999 Little Lake Road in Downey, CA 90240. This lake is actually made up of two small ponds, and the larger of the two seems to hold more fish. The California Department of Fish and Game stocks this lake with Rainbow trout from late fall to the early spring and Channel Catfish from the late spring to the early fall. There are also Bluegill, Carp, and a few Largemouth Bass in this lake. Remeber only take the fish if you are going to eat them, otherwise please practice catch and release and don’t litter!!!
